TOKYO, July 22 (Kyodo News) — The Japanese government has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into stainless steel products imported from China, following a complaint filed by four domestic producers. The probe is expected to conclude within one year.
The four Japanese steelmakers, including Nippon Steel, filed the complaint with the government in May this year. They alleged that the Chinese products are being sold in Japan at prices 20% to 50% lower than in the Chinese market.
As a result, Japanese domestic buyers are shifting from local products to Chinese alternatives, forcing producers to reduce prices and causing business losses.
