In the second quarter of 2025 (April-June), global stainless steel production increased by 5% compared to the previous quarter, reaching 16.36 million tons. Year-on-year, the figure rose by 3.1%.
During the same period, stainless steel production in Europe decreased by 5.1% year-on-year and 4.1% quarter-on-quarter, dropping to 1.54 million tons. In the United States, stainless steel production over the three months grew by 7.8% year-on-year and 1.1% quarter-on-quarter, reaching 559,000 tons.
In the Asian region (excluding China and South Korea), stainless steel production from April to June 2025 increased by 4.1% year-on-year but declined by 2.2% quarter-on-quarter, falling to 3.49 million tons. Meanwhile, China’s stainless steel production during the same period reached 10.54 million tons, up 3.9% year-on-year and 9.6% quarter-on-quarter.
Other countries, including Ukraine, Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia, South Korea, and Russia, recorded a stainless steel production of 225,000 tons, reflecting a 2.9% year-on-year increase and a 1% quarter-on-quarter growth.
As previously reported by the GMK Center, global stainless steel production in 2024 increased by 7% compared to 2023, reaching 62.621 million tons.
Over the past year, stainless steel production in Europe, including Ukraine, grew by 1.5% year-on-year, reaching 6.09 million tons. The United States saw a 6.9% year-on-year increase in annual stainless steel production, totaling 1.95 million tons. China’s stainless steel production during the same period reached 39.44 million tons, up 7.5% year-on-year. In the Asian region (excluding China and South Korea), stainless steel production in 2024 increased by 6.4% year-on-year, reaching 7.32 million tons.
