TISCO Breaks Through Ultra-High Strength Non-Oriented Silicon Steel Technology, Becoming the First Global Develope

According to news from TISCO Group, the company recently successfully developed 0.65mm thick 750MPa-grade ultra-high strength non-oriented silicon steel (product code: 65TWYS750) with both magnetic and mechanical properties. The product has been supplied in bulk to a well-known domestic generator manufacturing enterprise in China and successfully applied in the field of variable-speed pumped storage. User feedback indicates that the product’s various indicators fully meet the technical and application requirements for high-head, large-capacity variable-speed pumped storage units. This achievement marks TISCO’s breakthrough as the first globally to implement silicon steel of this grade in this field.

With the deepening of China’s "Dual Carbon" strategy, the demand for intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power has been increasing year by year. To enhance grid stability, variable-speed pumped storage technology has become a new direction in China’s power development. Accordingly, a leading domestic hydroelectric unit manufacturer proposed technical requirements for high-head, high-speed, and large-capacity variable-speed pumped storage. The rotor core material for this technology requires 0.65mm thick ultra-high strength non-oriented silicon steel products with a yield strength greater than 750MPa to meet the demands of variable-speed generator sets for wider regulation ranges and lower energy consumption.

Due to the difficulty in manufacturing the material, no domestic or international enterprise had the capability to supply it stably. After receiving the user’s inquiry, TISCO quickly established a dedicated team to study the matching and process window between chemical composition, recrystallization structure, and product performance such as magnetic properties, strength, and elongation. The company established a process synergy mechanism for magnetic and mechanical properties and developed a triple-mechanism composite strengthening technology for silicon steel. Within two months, TISCO successfully completed the product development, becoming the first enterprise globally to develop 0.65mm thick 750MPa-grade silicon steel products.
