Key Characteristics
Exceptional Corrosion Resistance
Outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC), especially in chloride-containing environments (e.g., seawater, chemical processes). Its Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN) is >40, owing to high Chromium (24-26%), Molybdenum (3-5%), and Nitrogen (0.24-0.32%) content.
Performs well in both oxidizing and reducing acids.
High Mechanical Strength
Offers very high tensile strength (≥730-800 MPa) and yield strength (≥550 MPa), approximately twice that of standard austenitic stainless steels like 304 or 316.
This allows for thinner gauge designs without compromising performance, potentially reducing weight and material costs.
Excellent Fatigue Resistance & Toughness
The duplex structure (austenite and ferrite) provides good impact toughness even at sub-zero temperatures.
Favorable Thermal Properties
Exhibits lower thermal expansion and higher thermal conductivity compared to many austenitic stainless steels, beneficial for heat exchangers and applications involving thermal cycling.
