Key Characteristics
Superior Intergranular Corrosion Resistance (Stabilized):
Titanium (Ti) addition effectively stabilizes the alloy against chromium carbide precipitation during welding or high-temperature exposure (425–815°C / 800–1500°F), preventing weld decay and intergranular corrosion. Critical advantage over unstabilized grades like 304.Excellent High-Temperature Strength & Oxidation Resistance:
Good oxidation resistance up to ~870°C (1600°F) continuously and ~925°C (1700°F) intermittently. Maintains higher creep and stress rupture strength than 304/304L in elevated temperature service.Enhanced Corrosion Resistance:
High chromium (17-19%) and nickel (9-12%) content provides strong general corrosion resistance comparable to 304, particularly against organic acids, oxidizing acids, and atmospheric conditions. Performs well in mildly corrosive industrial and chemical environments.Good Fabricability (Forming & Welding):
Austenitic structure ensures excellent formability in coil processing (bending, stamping, roll forming). Despite stabilization, it retains excellent weldability using all standard techniques (TIG, MIG, SAW, resistance). Post-weld annealing is generally not required.
